Guitar workshop

My good friend Karl just came by and unloaded his vast knowledge of guitar workings with a few of our worship ministry friends. I'm still spinning from the beauty of his tone and the depth of his knowledge and humility. Let me just say that the guy's a genius.

Thanks a ton Karl.

If you want to get a taste of what he shared in regards to sound, check out the post that Alex just put up over at betterthanblank...

Eric - I need INFO! Can you share what kind of gear (Amp, guitar, pedals etc.) Karl uses?

Can you share any great tips he gave for great tone and/or miking techniques?

Jeff, if you click on the pics you can blow them up and see what they all are. Some great stuff on there but also some stuff I've never heard of. Nice!

Thanks again Eric and Karl! I wish we had more time. I loved the look on Karl's face when you told him we had about 10 minutes left......

Karl is the MAN! It's so cool to see our churches working together and learning from each other.

O.K. Max, here's what I got out of Karl's teachings in a nutshell...

He uses a $30 stone pick because your first line of attack is your pick, strings and guitar. He demonstrated and it blew me away what a difference it made!

If he had to, he'd sell all his pedals and buy a better guitar, because tone comes primarily from your guitar.

Always go tube, tube, tube! because it's the truest form of music amplification (moving air) and it's where you'll get the warmest tone.

He's basically running 4 pedals (yeah I know, it looks like a lot more). He's got a few different delays (one that's always on), a few distortion variations, a couple of phasers and one or two signal boosters. The rest of his board consists of switchers to help with signal loss.

If you want to know more about what he shared, you can go to betterthanblank and see Alex's latest post which is basically a letter from Karl about sound. Or you can email him @ karl@getlife.tv

You won't believe it, but Karl's got a new box for his Pedal board. Oh, and he's going to move his amps off the stage!

Oh, and he did get a haircut! :-)
